Frequently Asked Questions
Everything we do is priced on a fixed-fee basis, whether on a project or subscription basis. Before any work starts, we agree a fee with you, and that's the number. There's no hourly billing, no running meter, and no invoice surprises when the matter completes.
If the scope of the work changes significantly, we'll let you know before the costs change, not afterwards. In practice, most matters stay within the original scope because the upfront conversation is designed to make sure we've understood what we're dealing with before we quote.
Corporate law is about the structure of a business: company formation, shareholding arrangements, raising investment, and buying or selling a company or shares in it.
Commercial law is about the business's ongoing legal relationships: contracts with clients and suppliers, terms and conditions and protecting the business's IP and data.
In practice the two often overlap. A business acquisition, for example, involves both. We have experience across both areas and the work is often done by the same team.
Project services cover a specific piece of work with a defined start and end point: reviewing a contract, advising on a redundancy, or handling a business purchase. You pay a fixed fee for that piece of work.
Subscription services give you access to ongoing legal support for a monthly fee. Depending on which subscription you choose, that might cover a set number of contracts reviewed each month, employment advice on demand, or a broader retained legal team service. Subscriptions suit businesses that have a regular volume of legal work and want the cost to be predictable.
Email us or use the contact form on this page. Tell us what the contract is, what you need to know, and (if relevant) what the other side is asking for. We'll come back to you quickly with a fixed-fee quote.
You don't need to have read the contract in detail first. We'll do that.
Primarily creative and marketing agencies, tech companies, and other high-growth businesses. Many of our clients are at a pivotal stage: scaling, raising investment, or planning an exit. We work across the UK, and if you're building something ambitious, we're probably a good fit.
It depends on the work. A contract review can often be with you within two to three working days. Larger matters, such as a business sale, a shareholders' agreement, or a more complex employment situation, will take longer, and we'll give you a realistic timeline at the outset.
We don't make you wait for things that don't need to wait.
We'll tell you, and we'll talk through the options before the costs change. We don't continue working on something and present a larger bill at the end.
In practice, most matters stay within the original scope. The upfront conversation is designed to make sure we've understood what we're dealing with before we quote, including the things that could make it more complicated.
Yes, and we often do. For transactions in particular, we're used to working as part of a wider advisory team and making sure the legal and commercial workstreams are aligned.
We're direct in our communication and won't create unnecessary friction. If we need something from your accountant or another adviser, we'll say so clearly and chase it ourselves.
We're a fully remote firm. Almost all our client interactions are online, which works well for the majority of what we do. Our team is spread around the UK, with an office in Epsom, Surrey. Where there's a need to meet in person, we'll find a way.
We mostly act for employers rather than employees, but employees who have received a settlement agreement do need independent legal advice; it's a legal requirement before the agreement becomes binding.
For employee-side settlement advice, our sister service Check My Settlement specialises in exactly this. It's set up to provide independent legal advice on settlement agreements quickly and at a fixed cost. You can find it at checkmysettlement.com.
Not too much. Firstly Contact us, tell us what you're working on. We'll usually want to have a call to make sure we understand what you need, then we'll provide a scope and quote.
If you want to go ahead, we'll send you a link to our onboarding platform, where you can verify your ID, sign our engagement agreement and make any initial payment.
